Why Italy

Careers, residence, and a life worth building.

Italy sits at the intersection of a recovering labour market, clear PR timelines, and a quality of life that makes the commitment worth it - for professionals, the self-employed, and families alike.

  • Active quota system

The Decreto Flussi opens annual quotas for non-EU workers across dozens of sectors. Algerian nationals are eligible, and employers increasingly sponsor candidates directly.

  • Algerian diploma recognition

The Dichiarazione di Valore process at the Italian consulate in Algiers provides the formal recognition your Algerian qualifications need for professional employment and self-employment applications.

  • PR at 5 years

Five years of continuous legal stay qualifies you for the permesso di soggiorno CE per soggiornanti di lungo periodo - a renewable, near-permanent EU residence status.

  • Competitive salaries in key sectors

Engineering, IT, healthcare, logistics, and construction are in sustained demand. The EU Blue Card threshold makes senior Algerian professionals competitive for high-qualification permits.

  • Established Algerian community

Milan, Turin, Rome, and Bologna have well-established Algerian and Maghrebi networks. The first months are easier when the community infrastructure already exists.

  • Schengen mobility and proximity

A short flight from Algiers, full Schengen access, and a central location that keeps you connected - to France, Austria, Switzerland, and across the EU.

Visa routes

Three work and residence routes, each with a defined file.

Italian work permits follow quota cycles and employer sponsorship rules. We build the file on time, to the consulate's standard, nothing missing.

  • Work · Lavoro subordinato

    Salaried Work Permit (Decreto Flussi)

Quota-based work permit for non-EU nationals sponsored by an Italian employer. The annual Decreto Flussi sets the intake window. Your employer files the nulla osta request; the Italian consulate in Algiers then issues the entry visa.

    • Italian employer files nulla osta (work authorisation) through the Sportello Unico
    • Entry visa issued by Italian consulate in Algiers after nulla osta approval
    • Permesso di soggiorno per lavoro subordinato obtained within 8 days of arrival
    • EU Blue Card available for qualified professionals with a salary meeting the threshold
    • Leads to long-term EU residence (permesso CE) after 5 years of continuous legal stay
  • Self-employment · Lavoro autonomo

    Self-Employed Work Permit (Lavoro autonomo)

For freelancers, consultants, artists, and entrepreneurs who intend to work independently in Italy. Requires proof of professional qualification or business plan, sufficient funds, and no threat to the local labour market.

    • Professional qualification proof or detailed business activity plan
    • Sufficient funds to sustain the activity and cover personal expenses
    • No bilateral exclusion and activity not restricted to Italian nationals
    • Algerian professional diplomas may need Dichiarazione di Valore and equivalence verification
  • Family · Ricongiungimento familiare

    Family Reunification (Ricongiungimento familiare)

For spouses, minor children, and dependent parents of Italian citizens or legal residents with a permesso di soggiorno. Sponsor must demonstrate sufficient income and adequate housing certified by the local municipality.

    • Marriage and civil status documents legalised with Dichiarazione di Valore at Italian consulate in Algiers
    • Sponsor income at or above the Italian social minimum, scaled by family size
    • Housing suitability certificate (idoneità alloggiativa) from the Italian municipality
    • Leads to permesso di soggiorno for family reasons, renewable and convertible to long-term residence

How it works

Five steps, from Algiers to your permesso di soggiorno.

Italian work and family immigration runs on parallel tracks - employer authorisation or family sponsor documentation, consular processing in Algiers, then post-arrival registration. Timing each step correctly is what prevents a year's delay.

  1. 01

    Eligibility and pathway selection

We assess your profile - employment contract, professional qualifications, or family tie - and identify the correct permit category. For salaried work, we confirm your employer's willingness to file the nulla osta.

  2. 02

    Employer file or sponsor documentation

For salaried work: the Italian employer files the nulla osta request through the Sportello Unico during the Decreto Flussi window. For self-employment: professional qualification proof and business plan. For family: sponsor income and housing certification.

  3. 03

    DV legalisation in Algiers

Algerian diplomas, civil status documents, and professional credentials are legalised and submitted to the Italian consulate in Algiers for the Dichiarazione di Valore. This runs in parallel with the work authorisation process.

  4. 04

Visa application at the Italian Embassy

Entry visa file submitted at the Italian Embassy in Algiers - accommodation proof, financial evidence, health insurance, and the nulla osta or sponsor documents. We review every annex before submission.

  5. 05

    Permesso di soggiorno and registration

Within 8 days of arrival: permesso application at Poste Italiane, biometrics at the Questura. Codice fiscale, municipality registration, and health system registration complete your legal status.
