Why the Netherlands
Structured, fast, and open to skilled talent.
The Dutch immigration system was built with international professionals in mind. The salary thresholds are clear, the IND processing is predictable, and the path from first permit to permanent residency is well-defined.
Fast Kennismigrant processing
The Highly Skilled Migrant permit (Kennismigrant) is typically approved within 2 to 8 weeks once your employer - a recognised IND sponsor - submits the application. No labour market test required.
30% tax ruling
Many Kennismigrant holders qualify for the 30% ruling, which exempts 30% of gross salary from income tax for up to 5 years. A significant financial advantage compared to most EU destinations.
Startup and entrepreneur tracks
Founders get a dedicated 1-year Startup Visa under a recognised Dutch business facilitator. After the startup year, a direct transition to the self-employed residence permit (zelfstandige) is available.
Permanent residency after 5 years
Five years of continuous lawful residence - whether as a Kennismigrant, self-employed, or startup-to-entrepreneur - qualifies you for a permanent residence permit with no employer dependency.
English-speaking professional environment
Dutch professionals work in English across tech, finance, logistics, and engineering. You can build your career and integrate socially without Dutch from day one, learning the language at your own pace.
Schengen hub with direct Algiers link
Amsterdam Schiphol operates direct flights to Algiers. Full Schengen mobility, central EU logistics position, and one of the continent's highest quality-of-life rankings.
Visa routes
Three routes through IND for skilled professionals.
The Netherlands Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) runs a streamlined sponsorship-based system. Whether you arrive with a job offer, a startup idea, or a plan to freelance, there is a defined permit track. We prepare your file to IND's checklist.
Employment · Kennismigrant

Innovation · Startup Visa
Startup Visa
A one-year residence permit for non-EU founders building an innovative product or service in the Netherlands, under the guidance of a Nuffic-approved business facilitator. After one year, founders typically transition to the self-employed permit.

- Product or service must be new to the Dutch market and scalable
- After the startup year, transition to self-employed (zelfstandige) permit if the business is operational
Self-employed · Zelfstandige
Self-employed / Entrepreneur Residence
Residence permit for freelancers, consultants, and established entrepreneurs operating in the Netherlands. Assessed on a points-based score covering personal experience, business plan viability, and added value to the Dutch economy.
- Points-based assessment by the IND: personal experience, business plan, Dutch economic interest
- Registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) before or at permit activation
- Proof of sufficient income or business revenue to meet subsistence requirements
- Path to permanent residency after 5 years of continuous self-employed residence
How it works
Five steps, centred on the IND.
Everything runs through the IND - the Immigration and Naturalisation Service. The process is online-first and checklist-driven. We prepare your file to their exact standard and coordinate the credential evaluation in parallel.
- 01
Eligibility and credential evaluation
Confirm which track applies - Kennismigrant, Startup Visa, or self-employed. Arrange a Nuffic or IDW evaluation of your Algerian diploma if required by your employer or the IND points assessment.
- 02
Job offer, facilitator, or business plan
Kennismigrant: secure a written offer from an IND-recognised sponsor above the salary threshold. Startup: partner with an approved Dutch business facilitator who validates your concept. Self-employed: build the IND points-scored business file.
- 03
IND application and approval
Your sponsor or facilitator submits the IND application on your behalf. Standard processing: 2 to 8 weeks for Kennismigrant, up to 90 days for startup and self-employed. IND issues the authorisation (MVV reference).
- 04
MVV appointment at the Dutch Embassy in Algiers
Book and attend the MVV appointment at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Algiers. Collect your entry visa and travel to the Netherlands within its validity window.
- 05
Arrival: BSN, residence permit, KVK
Register at the municipality within 5 days for your BSN (citizen service number). Collect your IND residence permit sticker. Self-employed and founders also register with the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) to activate the business.
